A short film exploring a funeral in rural Quebec that, at the last moment, becomes a funeral for two. The film follows Thomas, a grandson of the deceased whose poor French and use of humor as a coping mechanism have left him estranged from his Quebecois family.

Along the way, we meet an eclectic group of oddballs, the likes of which seem to only exist in large family gatherings, who push and pull Thomas to the point of exhaustion but also reflection.

Due to budget constraints, the film was shot in Los Angeles over two days using Quebecois and French talent.

The film is currently in the post-production stage with a projected final cut by the beginning of June. Color, sound design, sound mixing, score, and graphic design are all currently underway.

Director’s Statement

“Growing up in the United States, I spent time visiting my grandparents in rural Québec as a child. But as time passed, my visits became less and less frequent. Although there were ways of communicating, a language barrier always kept us from truly connecting.

All of this reflection and regret came to a head when shortly before my grandfather’s funeral, my grandmother passed away, making it a funeral for two. Having run out of second chances, I had to come to terms with this new reality all while navigating a funeral home full of distant and eclectic relatives.”
